The talented boys of Heads First are dusting off a crowd favourite and bringing it back for another round. Any Head First show is guaranteed to give you a good time, and Railed is no exception; a glorious parody of Western tropes and roguish bandits with a healthy dose of incredible physical theatre.
The Vault at Fool’s Paradise has been converted into a makeshift saloon, with ample space for the performers to work their magic. Our cowboy quartet gives us a wild west smorgasbord of acrobatic stunt work worthy of their reputation. They’ve perfected the timing and execution of their acrobatic visual gags to a masterful degree. Every stunt showcases impeccable comic timing and strength, whether they’re performing a Magic Mike dance homage, juggling bottles or somersaulting over various obstacles. The trademark chair tower makes an appearance, and how the boys manage to balance both their physical bodies on the precarious foundations and maintain the comic flow of the scene is nothing short of impressive.
The audience was more than onboard for the spectacle; the howls of laughter reached deafening heights as the boys pushed the bar for absurdist comedy and mischief. Barely a moment goes by when the physicality, facial expressions and body movements aren’t contributing to the quickly paced skits. All of this is served with a good dose of flirty cheekiness as the cowboys find themselves in various states of undress. It’s a playfully voyeuristic send-up of the stoic outlaw archetype, one that never takes itself too seriously and revels in the silly fun.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a show that delivers better entertainment. It’s as awe-inspiring and extraordinary as it’s ridiculously fun and hilarious. Yee haw!
