Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act is a British one-man play performed by Nigel Miles-Thomas and written by David Stuart Davies in 1999 and in that year it won an award at the brilliant Edinburgh Festival. It has toured the world since then with Nigel playing the role in a run last year at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival in Scotland

Nigel Miles-Thomas expertly plays fourteen characters from the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle “Sherlock Holmes” books, from Sherlock to Moriarty and Watson. It is a Sherlock who revisits his old address at 221B Baker and reflects on his life from when he was twelve until his cases up to the lead-up of the First World War.

Nigel brings a powerhouse performance to the role and was most impressive and inhabited the character of Sherlock He has played many roles on the stage and TV his most exciting for me was when he had a role in Doctor Who

David Stuart Davies, the playwright for this show, has written extensively about Sherlock Holmes and in this particular story Sherlock delves deeper into the darker aspects of his history. The story and the acting were so magnificent in this play that it made me want to start reading some of the Sherlock Holmes books I purchased a few years ago. I would love to see Nigel return to the Adelaide Fringe in subsequent years for other plays.

The venue at the Goodwood Institute is a great little room inside the theatre; thankfully, it was well-air-conditioned.
