Two of Australia's driest comedians Matt Stewart and Suren Jayemanne join forces for Drier, Drier, an hour of brand new stand-up comedy.

Being part of the creative process of stand-up comedy can be fun. Especially when the show's run is just starting and the comedians want to test which jokes work. When they do, there's a real sense of pride and atmosphere in the room. When they don't, you hope for some laughs for the awkwardness. Drier, Drier provided this experience in tenfolds, which was an equal amount of hits and misses.

There's no denying that Matt Stewart and Suren Jayemanne are both very funny people. Stewart's podcasts like Do Go On and Who Knew It? are prime examples of hilarious and spontaneous moments. Even when Jayemanne arrived 10 minutes late to a full audience (of 10–15 people) at the Alley Cat in the Rhino Room, they both had a fun banter and worked off each other quite well.

But once they hosted their own 20-minute segments, the show lost a bit of momentum. While they had some humourous oneliners, some of the set-ups for jokes went on for too long, and they were quick to abandon the punchline if it didn't sit with the audience. But, as Stewart mentioned, we were killing some of their babies for not laughing! Maybe the warm weather and being cramped in a tiny room took away the energy?

Overall, Drier, Drier is an appropriate title, as some of the jokes were a bit too dry for a humourous duo in a tiny hot room. The duo promised the show would get better across the season, so it might be worth going later to see if they deliver. If you like either of their solo performances, then I'd say you might find some of their jokes funny.
