I had the pleasure of seeing William Crighton in the past, performing a gig at The Wheatsheaf.  It was a wonderful experience and it was his backing band and voice that stood out.  At this year’s Fringe, he was to perform a solo, acoustic set, and at first, I was a little apprehensive as to how it would eventuate, but it was an incredible, intimate performance.  Crighton is a Scottish-Australian songwriter, born and bred in the Riverina region of NSW, creating a unique blend of country and blues music.  Crighton has a distinctive, powerful voice that breaks through his emotive guitar playing, and his physical presence is mesmerising.  His storytelling and lyrics are simple yet profound.  He performed songs from his vast discography including his new single “Your Country” and also the moving “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, that led me to shed a tear.  Even if you are not a fan of country/blues, this is one musician you must see – you will not be disappointed!
