For a very appreciative audience in the cosy area of the Jade the Shadowcasters recreated an era and paid tribute to a very special group who influenced the course of music mid 20th century. The Shadows started life as a backing group for Cliff Richards and whilst warming up, this tribute band started with The Young Ones just to put us in the mood.

This talented group of musicians played many of the great hits from the Shadows catalogue. With Doan Erwin playing lead guitar and sounding remarkably like Hank Marvin, the band played old favourites like Apache, FBI, The Frightened City and Guitar Tango. Rhythm guitarist Baz Elliott also acted as the MC of sorts, introducing the members and making occasional comments. Mario Sanioletti provided the drums and Gustavo Cichello was playing bass. For those other Shadow fans amongst us I can also report that they had the choreography down pat.

For a different feel Erwin and Elliott swapped guitar and Cichello brought out a traditional double bass, making some sweet music. However, it was soon back to the sound everyone was craving. Amongst the other tunes they played were Foot Tapper, Atlantis, Geronimo and Dance On. The hour passed very quickly and I am sad to report that this was the only Fringe performance this year, let’s hope they return next year.
