Akmal has thirty years of comedic experience. Twice nominated for Australia’s Helpmann Award for Excellence in Live Performance, he is incredibly comfortable on stage. There are no props and much improvisation.

Although you may know him from his regular television appearances on Rove, The Glasshouse and Thank God You’re Here, or the feature film You Can’t Stop the Murders, stand up comedy has always been his true passion.

Akmal covers topics such as religion, race and marriage. In this way Akmal’s style remains unchanged despite modern day political correctness, which is quite reassuring if you have enjoyed his shows before. It is also delivered with much swearing so there is no room for prudishness.

If you have read his book ‘The Life of Akmal’by Random House you will know his cultural heritage as an Egyptian is a core part of his identity as a comedian. Furthermore, his comedic style uses considerable audience participation so be prepared to answer a question! Avoid the front couple of rows if you don’t want to be a point of discussion.
