At the start of the Adelaide Fringe Seedoeatreview had the pleasure of hearing the beautiful voice of Le Gateau Chocolat at a Garden of Unearthly Delights preview show. Big, with a deep, bass tone, this was a man (in a mermaid costume no less) who could stop people in their tracks with the melodies he produced. A couple of weeks later, and once again I got to witness this burly man (performing in a cat suit no less) bringing the house down at Smashed: The Brunch Party. After the show I told Mr. Chocolat that I didn’t know when or where but I was going to make an effort to see his show, A Night At The Musicals 3: Summer Lovin, before the Adelaide Fringe was through. On Friday night I took that opportunity and loved every single fabulous minute of it!

A musical drag cabaret performance is how to best to describe this amazing show. Starring Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo, these U.K. performers go out of their way to make the audience feel welcome and part of the show. Starting with a little back-and-forth banter, and a light introductory song, Summer Lovin kicks into high gear when Woo belts out the lyrics to Sweet Transvestite (from the Rocky Horror Picture Show) with great aplomb. Chocolat hilariously followed that performance up with his own interpretation of Memory (from Cats), as the two performers took turns in winning the crowd over with different classic musical songs. From Singing In The Rain to Part Of Your World (Little Mermaid) to Time Warp, the excited audience eagerly participated in all the singing, dancing, and moving that Summer Lovin provided.

Being called A Night At The Musicals 3, you may have guessed that these guys are super-professional, highly polished performers who, not only play off each other wonderfully well,  but also incorporate the audience into their fun and games. Entertaining, fun and funny, this act has everything you want out of an Adelaide Fringe show!
