The Marvellous Elephant Man: The Musical ★★★★★
Be transported back to London’s Victorian Era, where bloody slayings in the backstreets of Whitechapel were credited to Jack the Ripper, where overcrowding and poverty were rife, and where folks attended circuses and freak shows for entertainment and frivolity. From these freak shows rose to prominence Joseph Merrick – aka The Elephant Man.
The Marvellous Elephant Man: The Musical, is a reimagined dark comic retelling of this famous story set to music – think Beauty and the Beast meets Phantom of the Opera and you’re getting pretty close!
In this production, cruel and twisted surgeon Dr. Frederick Treves, has taken our hero The Elephant Man to try and exploit him for his own means to fame and fortune. Merrick must escape his evil clutches and prove that love really can triumph over all, within 90 minutes!
This original Australian production is co-directed by the Olivier-award winning, Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe veteran Guy Masterson alongside Christopher Mitchell. It features a fabulous musical theatre cast and excellent live band.
This show will have you singing along to wonderful, something good, story book like songs well and truly after you have exited the venue!
The Marvellous Elephant Man: The Musical is currently showing at Wonderland Spiegeltent at Wonderland Festival Hub in Hindmarsh Square until March 13th. Make sure you add this one to your list of must see shows before the circus leaves town taking The Elephant Man with them!
