If you happened to be in the crowd of A Disney Tribute at Nineteen Ten on Saturday night, then reach your arm around to your back and give yourself a well-deserved pat. I’ve been to over twenty shows this year at the Adelaide Fringe and no audience has been so ear-shatteringly electric and up for a good time as this one. Boisterous and loud, but not interfering with the acts onstage, this was a crowd that lifted the performers of A Disney Tribute to another level and had everyone amped up throughout this wild evening. The concept of the show was pretty simple. Eight burlesque dancers pick their favourite Disney princesses and perform to the theme songs of those characters. And, with Disney having such a warm spot in the audience’s hearts, everyone loudly and proudly sang along to all the classic songs. With Lyra La Belle (as Cinderella) as MC for the evening, this show was always going to be in good hands. I’ve talked Lyra up enough in past reviews so I’ll leave it to one of the audience members I overheard sharing their thoughts on her: “she makes me feel so special and welcomed when I come to a show she is hosting “. Once the house rules were given, it was onto the show, as we were welcomed to the world of Disney by Viola Verve as Elsa from Frozen. Everyone knows the words to Let It Go and Viola’s burlesque dance got the crowd in a Frozen uproar as they belted out the lyrics while she performed. Lizzy Jane Baker kept us all enthralled as Belle from Beauty and the Beast, while Ember Rose almost stole the show as Maleficent with her giant wings and Alanis Morrissette-inspired dance number. And just when I thought the show would die down a little, a princess of a different kind walked out and wowed us: Princess Leia (played by Brandy Snaps). Well, she is a princess and is now owned by Disney so technically fits into this tribute! Sleeping Beauty was out next, and Remi Reign put a cheeky spin on this much-loved character. One audience member was well and truly awake when facing this princess. And if that lucky fellow thought his night was through, along came Cruella De Ville (my favourite performance of the night) to give him a second serving of burl-assque. With the audience in rapturous applause, Lylah Bloom took us all to Wonderland with a tea-soaked display of debaucherous dance, before Ariel (Autumn Daze) from Little Mermaid sang us to the finish line with a splash in the Nineteen Ten pool. Every fairy tale needs a happy ending and it was Cinderella (Lyra La Belle) who gave it to the audience with a sexy dance number that she probably shouldn’t have performed before midnight. A five-star crowd, a five-star show - even Mickey would have been proud of this Adelaide Fringe act. Five Stars *****
