Any self-respecting Fringe goer earmarks at least one drag show on their to-do list. And you could hardly go wrong if you spent a night with Yummy Iconic. Hailing from Melbourne, the crew of Yummy works their magic through an exhilarating blend of drag, burlesque, cabaret and circus. Yummy Iconic brings the fire! Yummy Iconic brings the fire! Hosted by Valerie Hex, we’re treated to an assortment of delightful acts, with each cast member bringing their physical prowess and dazzling wardrobe ensembles into the spotlight. The Peacock is a fantastic venue to highlight these talented folks, with a spacious floor and generous lighting to capture every moment. From traditional burlesque dance to fire spinning, to an ingenious rendition of Prince’s When Doves Cry, there’s an abundance of camp queer fun to be had. A definite highlight is acrobat Jarryd, whose impossibly fluid body movements make for a stunning trapeze act and contortion routine. Karlee Misi treats us to her saucy Burlesque and floor routines with almost manic cheeky energy. In one very memorable scene, drag performer Jandruze brought my friend up to be an “ingredient” in a sandwich - with a very debaucherous amount of mayonnaise thrown on top. Yummy’s energy is infectious and undeniable. The dances seamlessly transition into new acts, the aerial and circus feats are breathtakingly executed, and the charismatic hosts keep us wanting more at every turn - right down to the Brittney Spears megamix finale. Cheeky, glittery fun, and some of the best drag you’ll see at the Fringe. Five Stars ***** Reviewed by Justine Hall
