Former Adelaidean Sarah Bartolo has teamed up with Everything is a Lie solo performer Lauren Edwards to produce Business Women's Luncheon: Your Ticket to Financial Freedom! Bartolo’s background in acting and singing makes this performance beyond a stand-up comedy show. Her skills in theatre are displayed throughout with clever facial expressions, effervescence and overall, a lively manner. Edwards also brings her refined skills to the set, having had her 2021 show 'Live, Laugh, Lauren' debut with a sell-out season at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. The two work well together and bounce off each other in quick repartee making this a fast-paced high energy performance. There is never a dull moment as the pair skilfully synchronize their conversational spiel, which is the selling of financial freedom to the audience, all whilst making an excellent mockery of bogus wealth manifestation. The costumes were business suits, oversized wigs, and what you would expect from a daytime show in terms of makeup and manner, with the fabricated held back laugh of an aristocrat. They definitely looked the part, yet they also embodied it in their tone, posture, and speech style. The pair added to the fast pace with diversity in the performance by showcasing some videos on screen, hosting a quick dance session, and having guest wellness warrior Venus GirlBoss Moon treat the audience to a meditation session. The stage production and audio however, was rather off-putting and reduced my enjoyment of the show. The microphones were occasionally scratchy. The audio was excessively loud, even though I was seated in the second to last row, and after a quick dance move session, the stage lights continued to flicker. The flickering lights after the dance session in our eyes was to the point that a couple of audience members were shielding their eyes from its brightness. Please note, the audiovisual interference I experienced may just be a one-off, exclusive to that session. It is so refreshing to see such a brilliantly matched pair deliver a comedy show of great energy, enthusiasm, and laughter!
