Leather Lungs: Higher Love ★★★★☆

Some may refer to Leather Lungs as the Wish version of Adam Lambert, but this queen is back at Adelaide Fringe this year with their solo show Higher Love, and is absolutely slaying it!

Higher Love is a deeply poignant show where Leather Lungs (aka Jason Chasland offstage) completely wears their heart on their sleeve. Over the course of the show we are taken on a journey of recent happenings in their life – most distressing & moving, the escape from a domestic violence relationship.

Despite the weighty subject matter, Leather Lungs is able to overcome trauma with the use of comedy, and you can’t help but laugh & sometimes cry along with them.

Be prepared for a plethora of emotions as you hear a harrowing version of ABBA’s “The Winner Takes it All” all the way to a side-splitting version of “Old MacDonald”!

And the hits really do keep pouring, in some fabulous renditions only Leather Lungs could pull off – think Aretha Franklin, Cher, Destiny’s Child & Gloria Gaynor. We are also treated to some magnificent original numbers as well. Each song is evidently deeply personal to Leather Lungs, & we get a bit of background on why each song was chosen.

It’s fairly clear where Chasland got their stage name from, their vocals are so powerful & that four octave range is phenomenal.

Leather Lungs has faced so much adversity & come out the other side stronger and sassier than ever! If you haven’t seen Leather Lungs at Adelaide Fringe this season, then sadly you have missed out. Fingers crossed they’ll be back again next year, if so make sure you catch them before they sashay away!
