If you are a fan of indie, pop, and great entertainment, then Germein is right up your alley. On Saturday the 18th of February, The Octagon in Gluttony was the place to be! For those who don’t know, Germein consists of three sisters: Georgia (guitar and piano), Ella (bass), and Clara (drums). They welcomed new and old fans to their one night only, home town show.
Germein captured the audience the moment they entered the stage. Their boppy tunes and electric stage presence made the time fly by. We heard classic tunes such as 100 years and Red Rover as well as newer music such as Good For a Girl. Georgia even blessed us with the beautiful solo of Because You Breathe, a song she wrote for a close friend who was struggling, a song that encourages all who listen that “because {they’re} here the world is a better place” .
Although these women have shared a stage with huge names like Ronan Keating and Little Mix (amongst many others) they remain humble, authentic, and grateful for their Adelaide Hills beginnings. They even afforded the opportunity for fans to chat with them after the show while perusing their merch table.
My only qualm would really be with the venue itself. The Octagon, as the name may suggest, had an intimate round circle vibe with the stage in the middle. A great way for all audience members to feel like they are in the front row. However oddly their microphones and instrument set up was facing the doorway where there were little to no audience members. This meant that most audience members got a side or back profile of the performers no matter how much the band moved around or turned to face other sections of people.
Not a soul in the venue left without a smile on their face. Germein is the best wholesome and authentic Adelaide based band seen in a long time. We will look forward to seeing them again in November when they return with the Corrs after they travel and tour America and the United Kingdom. I see a big and bright future for Germein and can only hope they soon outgrow the small Fringe venue to allow for many more people to be blessed by their music
