Seedoeatreview is always happy to support the Fringe in all its forms. And, although the art of dominance and submission is not a path I’d usually tread, watching it with a live audience was a rather fascinating, yet slightly uncomfortable, experience.
Taking place inside The Peacock tent at Gluttony, the large and diverse crowd was faced with a shadowy bunny figure upon entry. Standing perfectly still, and not saying a word, she waited until we were all seated to begin her seductive welcoming dance. Gyrating to the musical beats, The Bunny was joined onstage by the rest of the Sin With Us crew, who all showed off their sexually charged dance moves before kicking the show up a notch with a couple of outstanding aerial displays.
Lumi La Vash started off proceedings with an aerial chain piece that left the audience gasping in disbelief at the painful-looking apparatus. And after that, the title of the show came to fruition as Lumi took great delight in inflicting pain on cast member Pixie (who was a willing participant in the performance). The guys were up next, and it was Cam who wowed us with an aerial pole display that must have taken amazing strength and skill. Once his feet hit the floor though, dominance and submission were at the forefront again as Nick pulled out a knife and began sliding it over his fellow performer. The look on the crowd’s faces said it all, as they weren’t sure whether to cheer or clap at this type of taboo entertainment.
The quiet fascination of the audience continued for the second half of the show where Nick proceeded to tie up Pixie before beginning to whip her. From this reviewer’s point of view, the artistry of the rope tying and knotting by Nick was something that I’ve never witnessed before and admired. As for the whipping, well I could kind of understand why they weren’t cheering and clapping because it kind of felt wrong to do so at the time. No disrespect was meant, and the loudest cheers came once the show was over, but Dominance and Submission was a show that truly left its mark… figuratively and literally!
