Hypnotist Matt Hale is back at the Fringe with his brand new 80s-inspired show. Hale has made a career of traveling all over the globe with his hypnosis show. Each year he themes his show and this year he draws his inspiration from the 1980s. The audience is treated to an upbeat 80s soundtrack as they enter, with Hale entering in full Top Gun attire before switching to 80s inspired exercise gear, a more weather-appropriate option for this week's heat wave. After a few clever crowd warms ups, Hale discussed with the audience how we already use our subconscious in our day-to-day lives, without being aware we are doing so.   I normally avoid shows that could result in audience participation. I dislike them with a passion. I have a fear of being pulled up on stage and becoming the centre of attention with everything out of my control. However, Matt Hale quickly put my mind at ease. From the outset, Hale made it very clear that anyone who wanted to participate in the show did so of their own free will and at no time would he force someone to participate or do something they didn’t want to.  Eight volunteers eagerly joined Hale on stage, where he took them through a series of deep breathing exercises to quickly relax them into a state of subconsciousness. From here, the fun began. Hale convinced one participant that he was “Australia’s best walker” and every time Proclaimers hit I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) came on, he got up and strutted around the stage. Another participant was convinced he was a world champion cheerleader, which resulted in some hilarious routines. A highlight was the 80s drumming montage where each participant suddenly became amazing 80s drummers auditioning to join Phil Collins. Matt Hale certainly knows how to entertain. His shows are a very safe environment to participate in and it is clear he cares for each participant in his shows, making sure they are always safe. Hale is quick, funny and high energy. If you are after something different this Fringe, or are keen to discover whether you are Australia's next champion walker, check him out.
