It may have a brand new cast and some new performances, but Purple Rabbit Rides Again is the same great show that arrived with a bang at the Adelaide Fringe last year. Led by the ‘fake wizard’ himself, Dom Chambers, this cast of delightful misfits each brings a unique set of skills and attitude to the show. The boisterous American, the Unnamed Magician, will deceive your eyes… and your pants, while the quietly spoken Piipsa will enchant you with a basketball foot-juggling display that needs to be seen to be believed. The Modern Pinup Girl known as Angie Sylvia demonstrates a fire dance of cheeky proportions while showing she can chew bubble gum at the same time, and Harper Jones… well let’s just say she’ll blow your mind. As for Dom, he brings back the tricks that wowed audiences from the first show. Great for new viewers, and just as amazing the second time around for this reviewer. With beers appearing from thin air, playing cards being pulled from the unlikeliest of places, and an illusion set to the music of Frozen, Chambers showed that he hasn’t lost his touch or penchant to entertain the audience. In fact, there a no weak links in the whole cast. And although the Unnamed Magician, Piipsa, Dom and Angie all got me laughing hysterically at their crazy, spell-binding antics, it was Harper Jones that seemed to get the biggest cheers. Loud, brash and completely unfiltered (much like this show), Harper was quick with the R-rated one-liners and brought a good-natured sense of fun to this wonderful production. One of THE shows of the Fringe, strap yourself in and ride along with The Purple Rabbit in 2023. Enjoy! FIVE STARS *****
