Produced by Scarlet Tinkabelle, founder of The Vaudeville Consortium, Sideshow Femmes features the wonderful talents of De La Vinx, Sophie deLightful, Ariel Onyx, Aleksandra the Great and Olive Dip. I was fortunate enough to attend the Adelaide premiere! It is their debut season in Adelaide, at the Empire Theatre, Wonderland Spiegeltent Hub, having first performed at the Fringe World festival in 2020. They are a group we definitely want to return! With Sophie deLightful doubling as host for the night the entertainment starts straight away. deLightful is quick witted, jovial, and knows how to create a wonderful atmosphere. There are numerous sets and many props. Some of these props are power tools used together by De La Vinx and Tink, Tink with a bed of nails, Aleksandra the Great with some staples, Ariel Onyx with her aerial slings, and Olive Dip with her hula hoop. They all like to play with fire. Each artist has a solo showpiece, each equally tantalising, some with more morbidity than others. This is not a conventional showcase. It ends with a grand finale featuring the entire cast, and yes, that involves lots of fire. In fact, if you are in the front row, you will feel the heat! Sideshow Femmes is a heady mix of cabaret, burlesque, and circus talent, delightfully performed. It is great for curious audiences and a perfect show for couples to enjoy.
