This show reviews the history of the Brill Building in Manhattan, New York during its most productive years. Focussing on the work of such greats as Neil Sedaka, Carol King, Gerry Goffin, Ellie Greenwich, Barry Mann Neil Diamond, Bobby Darin, and many more. Taking time to reveal the connections and the way they influenced each other whilst treating us to a version of many of their hits.
Michael Griffiths, Amelia Ryan, and Michaela Burger are all successful artists and together they are a powerhouse, playing mostly well-known songs with a few lesser-known gems thrown in. Starting off with a great version of Rock Around The Clock, the big hits that followed were too many to mention, but I really enjoyed their take on Up On The Roof, Oh Carol, Who Put The Bomp, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, and Uptown
All three performers demonstrated their ability to sing a variety of music in the style it was written. Memorable moments were Michaela’s rendition of Carol King’s hit Natural Woman, and Amelia Ryan, despite her advanced pregnancy, managed to give us Leader Of The Pack complete with motorbike sounds! They all combined on Chapel Of Love and got everybody involved with River Deep Mountain High.
Behind all of these great songs was a tight ensemble that had Michael Griffiths on the keys, alongside Felicity Freeman on bass, Josh Baldwin on drums, Tom Kneebone on guitar and featuring Emile Roach in some fine solos on saxophone.
If the sixties was your era, or you just love the music, this is too good to miss.
