What a Bobby Dazzler!

Bobby Dazzler* by name and by nature.

According to Sarah Millican…
*‘Bobby Dazzler’ is the purest compliment. Imagine a child in red wellies or a woman in a new top. Both are Bobby Dazzlers. It is also the name of a caravan cleaning spray. This show is not about cleaning caravans.

Sarah Millican lives up to her dazzling reputation in her new stand-up comedy show ‘Bobby Dazzler’. In this, her sixth international tour, she regaled the enthusiastic audience with tales that managed to include reference to every body fluid, orifice, appendage and associated embarrassment  known to man. Or woman. In someone else’s hands this material may be interpreted as TMI (too much information) and yet with Sarah’s brilliant style she manages, amongst the groans and empathetic grimaces, to weave hilarious and totally relatable stories.

The audience at the February 20 show at Thebarton Theatre was enthralled and highly entertained. Sarah is an advocate for women in general, women’s health and for being comfortable in one’s own skin. Each time I watch one of her shows I feel like eating a whole pack of biscuits. And guilt-free at that. She is warm and friendly and makes everyone feel like her personal friend. The men in the audience were laughing just as heartily as the women and although this isn’t a show suitable for children, it still feels wholesome. As if she’s just having a chat with us all and sharing some anecdotes.

Sarah has an acerbic wit. She is professional and slick and she banters with the audience in an ad lib style with aplomb. The times she invites comments from the audience are some of the funniest moments due to her ability to think on her feet and improvise. I love her observations, the way she views the world and the good feelings she invokes.

Her good-will also extended to giving each audience member a Bobby Dazzler badge at the end. She also offered some merchandise for sale, of which she took no profits to support small, local suppliers. She’s a good egg. And an absolutely hilarious one at that.

At the time of writing, I understand her Feb 26 show is sold out.
