Germein consists of three sisters Georgia (guitar and piano,) Ella (bass,) and Clara (drums.) Together they welcome fans to their one-night show on Saturday. Outside the Fringe is bustling with opening weekend pandemonium, but inside the tent Germein creates an idyllic indie-pop refuge. The Octagon at Gluttony proves the perfect venue, able to host a larger crowd while still offering a sense of intimacy. Fans applaud classic Germein songs such as “100 Years” and “Because You Breathe” with the same enthusiasm as their new powerhouse single “Good for a Girl.” During “Talking,” their very first single released as Germein, Clara walks around the audience and rouses them to clap along. Their excitement is contagious during a mash-up of songs from their favourite artists - from Ronan Keating to Spice Girls and Phil Collins. Germein is the soulful kind of band who still brings CDs to sell at their merchandise stall after gigs, and whose loyal audience still lines up to buy them. The crowd is relaxed and delighted throughout the show, guided by the sisters’ heartfelt song introductions and banter. Ella laughs as she apologises for giving the left side of the Octagon an inadvertent booty dance in her sequin shorts, unable to stop herself from dancing along with each song. Seeing Germein perform live is like receiving a warm hug from a golden ray of sunshine following a productive therapy session - authentic, emotive, and uplifting. Gluttony will serve as their farewell to Adelaide for now, before touring America and the United Kingdom. Though thankfully they will be returning with The Corrs in November of 2023.
