Amy Hetherington returns to the Adelaide Fringe this season with new show Juggle, sharing her journey of searching for her lost “sexiness” after becoming a mother.
“The juggle of having a toddler and being a parent is hardcore,” she says, while admitting she has made it harder for herself by bringing her one year old on tour.
Juggle doesn’t shy away from the awkward aspects of motherhood, in fact Hetherington is spunky and honest in her assessment. She remembers the day she left her daughter alone for one minute and returned to a scene which “looked like we lost a game of Jumanji.”
Hetherington recounts her failed attempts to reclaim her sexiness, including a short lived foray into burlesque, cricket, and woodworking. Her story is entirely relatable, from the trauma of sleep regressions to the strangeness of Facebook mothers’ groups and navigating playground politics.
Juggle perfectly captures the exhausting and rewarding dichotomy of parenting a toddler. The intimate venue at Rhino Room, Hetherington’s honest style of humour, pop culture references, and therapeutic level of swearing makes Juggle perfectly suited for millennial parents. Though it is also highly recommended for those wanting to revisit the early years of parenthood with a giggle, or for adults without children who want their suspicions of breeders confirmed.
