For their final sold out show, trombonist Annie Isaksson and her 12-piece band tore the house down at The Lab. Entitled Blow: We’re Making It Horny, the audience were treated to two hours of tight musicianship covering hits old and new and enjoyed the ability to dance after years of restrictions.

The stellar band consisted of two trumpets, a trombone, two saxophones, three vocalists, guitar, bass, keys, and drums. Amazingly, at least four of the performers on the night had filled in due to covid complications but you wouldn’t have known as all parts worked harmoniously throughout.

Highlights included a female rapper covering hits from Anderson Paak and Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)”.

A brassy cover “You & Me” by Flume was like nothing I had heard before, giving a fresh perspective on an electro favourite.

The incredible vocals on Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” provided the throwback feels and a singalong moment for the audience.

A colourful backdrop with brass instruments covered the multi digital screens that surrounded the music-venue-meets-art-installation that is The Lab, and it was the perfect location for live music.

Overall, it was such a joyous night of terrific music that highly impressive and really capped off the final weekend of the 2022 Adelaide Fringe. If Isaksson gets the band back together in 2023 keep your eyes out because it’s sure to be another sell out hit.
