This show was like nothing I’ve seen before. The colourful display of drone-art in the sky was perfectly synchronised with music, poems and stories of Aboriginal culture, as well as an exploration of the deep connection to country experienced by First Nations peoples.
SkySong was rather short and sweet; I would have happily sat there for another half hour, however, it was deep in meaning and fostered a sense of understanding of the First Peoples to our land and how they lived.
Narrated by acclaimed singer, songwriter and Aboriginal rights activist, Archie Roach; listen as you are taken through stories of the Ngarrindjeri people. Hear how significant landmarks like the Milky Way and Murray River came to exist through traditional storytelling and captivating visualisations.
The narration also takes you through significant moments and events in Australia’s history. From the stolen generation and the sadness this brought on First Nations peoples, to the joy experienced when the APY Land Rights Act was announced in 1981 and land was returned to the traditional APY people in South Australia. Stories discuss themes of reconciliation and provide a greater understanding of a few important events in Australia’s history.
SkyShow is an incredible display of sky art, Aboriginal culture and storytelling and is one not-to-miss this Adelaide Fringe season. Set amongst the beautiful vineyards of McLarenVale, the venue is gorgeous and absolutely fitting.
There is a ten minute walk from the designated car park to the show location, so bring good walking shoes, a few picnic rugs and a warm jacket and blanket. Family and pet friendly event.
