It’s always great to see a comedian who is having just as much fun as the audience, and that is what John Robles was giving in his latest stand-up set John Robles: Gay as in Happy (and Homosexual).

For an intimate mid-week audience in the Legends’ Bar, Robles had the crowd in stitches with his eclectic comedy style.

From dating horror stories to hilarious impressions and the confusion around the pronunciation of his last name, Robles flits between stories and acts quickly keeping the audience engaged throughout the hour-long set.

When bouncing of the audience with Q&A, you could tell Robles is a natural for improv and has a sharp wit. His cheeky charisma allows him to get away with laughs about taboo topics and otherwise dirty content.

As is obvious by the name of his show, Robles appeals to an LGBTQ+ audience and there are plenty of hysterical observational jokes about his life as a gay man.

After not being able to perform in SA since 2020, it’s great to see the return of interstate acts and Robles is surely a comedian on the rise. Don’t miss John Robles: Gay as in Happy (and Homosexual). It’s showing at the Legends’ Bar until Saturday, March 19. Get your tickets here.
