I’m not usually the type to attend magic shows. Magicians, all too often, fall into cliché for me. A trick I’ve seen once I rarely want to see again. Unless it’s something like Cubic Act (seriously, go look that up on YouTube!) But when a magician (or a pair of magicians in this case) are able to hold the audience through more than just stagecraft and trickery, then they’ve got my attention. Adults Only Magic Show is filthy, sexy, and bloody hilarious.

Sure, you get your regular tricks with most magic shows: card tricks, mentalist tricks, predictions, and what not. But in this show the magicians do something which many magicians fail at and end up ruining their whole career (or just their audiences evening). The show is genuinely funny for reasons outside the magic tricks. Visual gags are pretty easy to laugh at; a curtain falling to reveal one of the magicians reading Magic for Dummies is a pretty funny joke. But what really sells this show for me is the development of chaos.

In storytelling, us writers tend to use concepts such as a countdown to explain how the events of a story progress from one state of affairs to another. A countdown can be anything from someone’s bills creeping higher and higher, or perhaps an increasing number of murders in a small town. Adults Only Magic Show does something similar. Each member of the audience who volunteers gets to fill in the blanks on a board of questions to determine one of the magician’s ideal date. The answers to the questions are revealed to have been written down prior to the show and placed in a locked box above the stage. It’s simple, but the audience is given constant reminders of the trick building up throughout the show.

But to sum up, do I think it’s good? Yeah, definitely! It is obviously an adults only performance but that won’t make me hesitate in this recommendation. Adults Only Magic Show will make your evening, whether you like magic or not!

4.5/5 stars.
