One of the most captivating mysteries of the universe, Oracle brings the audience on a mystical journey through the stars and beyond! With an astounding anthology of tales that weave together Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythos, the show has made a highly impactful debut at the Adelaide Fringe this year. And after seeing the show, it’s clear why they have taken home a 2022 BankSA Pick of the Week award.

With 75 minutes of astounding performances, the show is centred around a divine being known as the Oracle, played by the talented Jazmine Varlet. With a truly beautiful voice, the Oracle narrates tales of love, betrayal, and danger that shed light on each of the zodiac signs. Throughout these stories, audiences are left in awe with a wide variety of performances, including hoop work, body contortion, pyrotechnics, and aerial hoops. In addition, these are tied together with different forms of dance, including belly dancing, pole dancing, ballet, and contemporary dance.

Although I’m an Aquarius at heart, the standout and highlight for me was the story of Gemini. Oracle begins the show by weaving together a gripping story of two brothers: Castor, a mortal, and Pollux, an immortal. Unparalleled by any other aerial straps act at the Fringe, the Two Fathoms, also known as Jack Dawson and Reed Kelly, perform with unmatched grace and elegance. Taking hold of the audience’s attention as they soar through the air, you won’t want to miss a single second as they are truly a marvel to witness. The story told around the two breath-taking entertainers is one of sacrifice and love, promoting the bond between siblings and friends.

All of the amazing performers have excellent crowd interaction, with the entire show being enhanced by audience morale. You can’t help but clap and cheer as the amazing artists behind the show inspire carefully watching eyes and hanging jaws. Much like its hugely successful counterpart, Matador, Oracle promotes a single moral at the end of the show, linking all the smaller narratives together with a unifying theme. As narrated by the Oracle herself, the show is all about spreading love and compassion in the world, regardless of whether you believe in astrology or not. The world needs these stories, and this message, now more than ever.

So, what are you waiting for? There’s no need to check your astrological charts because the stars have aligned and it’s time to see the Oracle!
