Do you love watching stand-up comedy however feel like you don’t want to watch the same performer every year? Or just in need of another Fringe comedy fix and don’t know where to start? If so, then the Monday Night Comedy Club is an excellent choice. With a line-up that changes each week, grab a glimpse of 4-5 comedians taking the stage for approximately ten minutes each. Hosted by MC Bart Freebairn, on the evening I attended, were (in order), comedians Michael Shafar, Biddy O’Loughlin, Gordon Southern and Akmal. Although Freebairn’s role was technically only the MC for the evening, he was on stage enough for me to be amused enough to want to attend his Fringe show. Upon entering the famous Spiegeltent, I was seated in the front row along the side, as with COVID you are ushered to your spots. It felt a little crowded and stuffy with masks on (you can take them off if drinking), and due to the location depending on where the comedian stood, I had to crane my neck or at times was looking at their back. I would suggest letting the staff know if you have neck issues. Being seated in the front row also meant the performers included both myself and my friend in the show. Go late if you don’t want to be seated near the front! Topics of the evening ranged from politics to racism to COVID to vaccinations, and my favourite type, observational humour. Presented by A-list Entertainment, Monday Night Comedy Club is an opportunity to see some of Australia’s finest talent for just the one ticket price.
