I Am Root by Canadian-Ukranian dancer, and multi-disciplinary artist Olenka Toroshenko is a show of consequence; a work that is more timely and more prescient than the artist would ever have wished.

I Am Root is a cultural exploration and dissection of Toroshenko's three homes; her ancestral land of Ukraine, the nation of her birth, Canada, and her current residence, Australia. The work is a funny and fiery melting pot, blending traditional folk tunes, spoken word, modern dance and North American observational comedy.

That she can laugh, cry and give her heart on stage at a time where so much of her soul is pouring out to her besieged homeland is a testimony to her resilience. This is a show worth seeing at any time but especially now, and, as Toroshenko states, now may be all we have.
