Commissioned by the two actors, this play is a well written piece that turns a spotlight on the continuing persecution of homosexuals in Chechnya. Writer Angus Cameron has penned a story that has many levels. Based on a meeting in Moscow of a young Australian and a Russian Tour Guide, the complex plot revolves around the fact that neither is who they claim to be. The journalist after a scoop and the guide who is an expert on dirt are both more than what they seem. Apart from the question of who is deceiving who and the complex motives behind this, the seductive nature of the plot questions how we view ourselves and others.

Both Patrick Livesey and Wil King give sensitive and thought-provoking performances expertly guided by director Bronwen Coleman. The play develops in unexpected ways but Coleman keeps the focus from becoming merely the sexuality of the couple. The simple set allows easy transfer to the many changing scenes. This excellent piece deserves to be high on your list this Fringe.
