Whenever a show starts with a roar from the audience that’s always a good sign. It was my first experience at a Head First Acrobats show so don’t be like me and wait until their third production to check them out! GODZ is as they describe the show, “A hedonistic dive head-first into the lives of the ancient gods of Olympus!” and yes it certainly was just that! While the show started with a gentle slow vibe it turned into a fast ‘n furious ballsy (at times literally) hour of cheeky (again literally) acrobatic mayhem! The four GODZ; Apollo, Dionysus, Hades and Hercules were majestic. They performed spins, flips, sliding and dancing amongst the precision timing muscle flexing balancing acts. There were all sorts of balancing; on shoulders, hands, ladders and chairs making for a suspense-built performance that wowed and impressed the audience. Also there were lots of muscles. In between all the serious acrobatics were playful and fun skits of comedic banter. The naked GODZ statues was quite an eye-popping scene. Let’s just say they were definitely chiselled like the typical Greek Gods with no ‘ifs’ but plenty of ‘butts!’ Did I mention the muscles? The combination of spectacular acrobatics with cheeky fun is a refreshing take on circus performance shows. It’s easy to see why Head First Acrobats have built up a following. Fringe audiences know what’s good. I know someone who has already seen this show twice and its run has only started! So, I think it’s wise to Grab Ya Tix early so you don’t miss out. Don’t be like ‘last year’s’ me. Go see GODZ before it’s sold out!
