Jo Lawry Live at The Spiegeltent

Music • Contemporary
Brooklyn-based Aussie singer-songwriter and longtime Sting band member Jo Lawry returns to the Spiegeltent after sold-out shows in 2015 & 2016.

Virtuosity meets storytelling, and joy meets heartbreak in Jo's sparkling original songs.

Jo and her band will perform songs from her albums "I Want to Be Happy" (named among the "Best CDs of the Decade" by Downbeat Magazine) and the critically acclaimed "Taking Pictures", as well as brand new material from her upcoming record, "The Bathtub and the Sea".

"Jo Lawry numbers among our favorite discoveries of the past year" (Time Out New York)

"She has a gift for the music of words, a feel for the stories they tell and an instinct for how to drape a lyric elegantly across a vivid melody... Lawry, effervescent and riveting, imbued her singing with a freedom" (Sydney Morning Morning Herald)

"Singer of dazzling self-possession" (New York Times)

Presented by: Jo Lawry

Jo grew up on an almond farm in Willunga, South Australia, but has spent the last 13 years living and working in New York. Her debut album “I Want to Be Happy” was named one of the “Best CDs of the Decade” by Downbeat Magazine. Jo has been featured on numerous modern jazz recordings (stand-outs include Dr. Lonnie Smith’s “Rise Up!” and Kate McGarry’s Grammy nominated “If Less is More… Nothing is Everything”) but she has become well-known beyond jazz circles for her work with Sting, with whom she has been recording and touring since 2009, and more recently for tours with Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel. Jo was featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “20 Feet From Stardom”, and released her latest album “Taking Pictures” in 2015.
