American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly has sprinkled the Adelaide Botanic Gardens with 15 intricate and towering displays of modern art, which can be viewed as a free, self-guided exhibition during the day. After-hours, though, Chihuly Nights is a ticketed event, offering Fringe-goers an opportunity to step into another world, where each glass sculpture juts from gardens and ponds in a magnificent display of creativity.
As the sun sets and the Fringe swings into its nightly festivities, a path lit by garlands of festoon lights guides you through the gardens, where each stunning large-scale glass sculpture is lit by external and internal lighting. If you fancy taking your time, you can stop for a drink, a bite to eat or some live jazz at the Evergreen Deli, which plays host to the Chihuly Bar. It’s the perfect experience for lovers of art, nature and twilights. Suitable for the whole family, Nights is selling out, but daytime guided walks are also available.
