Roy Barker's poster for Don't Get Carried Away, his one man show for Adelaide Fringe.

Don't get carried away

From a bruised and battered ten-year-old singing at a rough suburban school in Melbourne — to printing presses, film sets, boxing rings, and Shakespeare in China — Roy Barker, whose credits include Utopia, Fisk, Neighbours, Winners & Losers, The Dressmaker, The Very Excellent Mr Dundee, and loads of TV commercials, has lived a life that refuses to stay in one lane.

Funny, fearless and full of heart, Don’t Get Carried Away is a one-man show about family, resilience, and the unstoppable urge to perform. Mixing storytelling, parody, music and memoir, Barker takes you on a wild ride from Migrant Kid Hiding From Bullies to Late-Bloomer Actor. If you’ve ever been told “okay, settle down”, or “don’t get carried away” — this show is for you.
