David Rose: Our Hebrew Friend
My great grandfather was a world-famous Jewish comedian in the early 20th century. He was known to the public as 'Our Hebrew Friend' and performed at the Royal Variety Show and on the BBC. A century later, here I am in the same job, asking the same questions. What does it mean to be a comedian, to be Jewish, and to be both at the same time? In just a short few years, David Rose has accumulated an impressive variety of skills. He's worked as a writer, performer, live event producer, radio broadcaster, Tik Tok-er, and as the guy sneaking up behind you as you read this.
Based in Melbourne, he has toured his work across five countries in English and German and has opened for some of the nation's top headliners, including Dilruk Jayasinha, Akmal Saleh, Dave O'Neil, and Fiona O'Loughlin, as well as Vir Das (IND), Modi (USA) and Omad Djalili (UK).
David's work has also gained him a growing online following, with over 10 million views in 2024 alone. He has written and presented for ABC Radio National and the BBC, TV's The Leak and Tonightly, The Chaser, and has performed at six consecutive Melbourne International Comedy Festivals.
