A jaw-dropping story set on the Coral Sea, Australia. An Irish backpacker blags his way onto a prawn trawler. There he discovers a rarely seen world of hard labour and harder fishermen, where drinking, fighting, storms and hungry sharks are part of everyday life. His raw, exuberant story of adventure twists dramatically into survival culminating in an unforgettable moment of redemptive grace.
Trawled is a one-man biographical drama. The actor plays himself 25 years younger!

Each performance will be followed by a Q&A session allowing the audience to ask the performer questions about his traumatic experience and how he recovered from it.
For the opening performance in Adelaide on Monday 3 March, all proceeds will support the Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.

The Irish writer/ actor Eoin Ryan isn’t having a midlife crisis! He made a promise on the Australian Trawler to help other people. He waited 24 years to figure out how to share his story. First came the book in 2017. Then a TEDx talk in 2022 giving Eoin the idea to expand into a play.
With no theatre experience he first performed Trawled in Sept 2023 in front of 170 people. In 2024 he took a chance on going to the Edinburgh fringe. The play was shortlisted for the BBC Popcorn award and received 5 star reviews.
His goal at Edinburgh was to be invited to perform in Australia, back where the story is based.
