Bharata Natyam - Classical Indian Hindu Temple Dance

"When the genius of the dance is touched by the hands of God." (Dauphine Libre)

Bharata Natyam originated over 3000 years ago in a Hindu Temple in South India.  It was first danced by the Devadasis, handmaidens of God.  The dance is an invocation, a prayer to the deities.

Rhythmic and intricate footwork, elegant hand gestures, vibrant expressions entice you to the ancient land of India where the Gods and Goddesses still abide.

Shakti was trained from the age of 3 under her mother, VasantaMala who was the first Japanese to introduce Indian Dance to Japan.  She has performed worldwide. Shakti is noted for her dynamic and powerful dance and her perfect footwork.
