Bamboo and Shamrock - When China Meets Ireland
A trip to Ireland inspired Adelaide-based Chinese Australian singer-songwriter and storyteller Xueqian (Chien) Zhang to create this brand-new cross-cultural cabaret, exploring the differences and connections between Chinese and Irish cultures.
Blending live music, storytelling, poetry, folklore, language, and spoken word, it also incorporates traditional elements, including tea ceremony, folk dance, and Chinese calligraphy.
Xueqian (Chien) leads an ensemble of musicians - David Dai, Jack Brennan, and Keith Preston - blending traditional instruments from both cultures with contemporary sounds in an engaging and heartfelt dialogue.

Presented by: Xueqian (Chien) Zhang
Xueqian (Chien) Zhang is an emerging artist blending music, storytelling, and cultural connection. She has performed at Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe, OzAsia Festival, and the Lunar New Year Street Party, and was a 2025 Fringe Fund recipient for her debut solo show. In 2023, she studied Vocal Performance at AC Arts, joined the Contemporary Asian Australian Performance Artists Lab X SA, recorded a Chinese film soundtrack, and now participates in ActNow Theatre’s 2025 Cultural Leaders Program. She also leads music and storytelling sessions and founded the podcast Inspirations in My Backyard, amplifying the voices of inspiring people.
