YOU CAN'T TELL ANYONE by Joanna Richards
It’s the end of school and Gwen is throwing a party. After an emotional year, her friends are keen to spend the night drinking, playing games, and arguing about literally everything. But when a party game spirals out of control, long-held tensions start to strain and snap. Are the friends messing with each other? Or is there a bigger threat pounding at the door?
Joanna Richards’ 'You Can’t Tell Anyone' is a philosophical thriller that examines how teenagers survive the loss of meaning, structure and identity that comes with the end of adolescence. It asks us what it means to truly know someone, to truly be a friend, and to truly be yourself.
YOU CAN’T TELL ANYONE was commissioned and first produced by Canberra Youth Theatre, 10 August 2023 at the Canberra Theatre Centre, Courtyard Studio.
Presented by: Odd Sockz Theatre
Odd Sockz Theatre is a theatre company for young people, co-created by young people. They aim to provide financially accessible opportunities for young people in the South Australian theatre scene. Odd Sockz creates a safe space for young people who want to find their place in the arts industry to make friends and gain experience doing the thing they love, just like Odd Sockz did.
This show speaks to the company as creatives, and as young people, capturing an important moment in the process of growing up, stepping away from childhood, and into the adult world. They are excited to take on this challenge at Fringe 2026, and excited to see what the future holds for Odd Sockz.
