This Old Cello Box

Following an extensive UK/EU tour, with sell-out performances at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe, Australian cellist and songwriter, William Jack, brings his unique multi-style cello show home to the Adelaide Fringe. The program includes iconic songs dismantled and reimagined for solo cello. Intertwined with original compositions from William's acclaimed album series, 'This Old Cello Box'. There's something for everyone, from virtuosic bluegrass, to non-Western sound worlds. William incorporates his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, delivering cellopickin' grooves and catchy hooks, alongside intimate melodies.

Presented by: William Jack

William Jack is an Australian multi-style cellist and songwriter, based in London. He is best known for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, with a passion for breaking boundaries between genres and cultures.

Since his classical studies in Vienna, William has forged his own cello pathway, touring Europe, Australia and the UK extensively. He has recently performed his solo compositions from his debut album ‘This Old Cello Box’ live on BBC Radio 3, and was selected to perform as a ‘New Folk’ songwriter at the 2023 Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He has been fortunate to work with numerous world-renowned artists, both as a session musician and collaborator. William is currently touring his new sophomore album, 'This Old Cello Box, Vol.2'.
