Sitting quietly in a timeless landscape: Mary Hill

For over a decade, Hill has been captivated by the ancient landscapes of South Australia's Gawler Ranges, particularly the fragile, shifting vistas of Lake Gairdner. In this exhibition, photographs and paintings explore the transitory patterns created by water across the salt lake's surface, contrasting them with the ancient terrain said to be over 300 million years old. You need a place to sit in this timeless landscape.

Warm-toned photographs are layered with lino-printed chairs, while paintings reveal a new process where multiple works of the same composition are stopped at different stages, each capturing a moment in the evolution of the final piece. This approach draws attention to mark-making and invites the viewer to slow down, reflect and sit with the landscape.
