About this event

A rollicking cabaret comedy musical set in deepest darkest Outback Australia. For a moment in time Saltbush Downs Golf Club becomes the Home of World Golf and stages it's Open Classic Tournament. A farcical celebration of the glorious game of golf and a satirical look at politics in Australia. Come out bush for a round of golf you may never leave !

Deep in the sun-blasted desert of Outback South Australia lies Saltbush Downs Golf & Country Club. Dedicated to the Royal and Ancient game, it is an oasis of sporting civilization with a championship golf course and majestic corrugated iron clubhouse. How did it come to be?

This rollicking rock music-comedy farce follows the almost unbelievable story of country golf in the saltbush sun.

Redwing Farm are working in with some great local suppliers for the event, with Sunny Hill Distillery serving beverages, and Taste the Yorke and MBC foods dishing up delicious coffees, grazing boxes and Yorke's seafood. All of this, coupled with some fabulous styling by Whitepark & Co, means ticket holders can expect not just a show, but a real Fringe experience.
Drinks and food can be enjoyed before the show, during interval and after the show. Lawn opens one hour prior to each show, with last drinks being 9:30pm.

This has been a project a long time in the making. Keith Preston has been active for the last 30 years as a musician, puppeteer, arts coordinator, festival director, songwriter and world music developer. Prior to this period however he was an actor/writer/director of theatre which included indi-music theatre, mainly youth and community theatre and rock& roll political satire. He had eight scripts produced in the 1980’s. He also worked as a junior golf professional, U/21 State golfer/ Simpson Cup and pennant player. Thanks to Covid isolation finally the script he has been planning for years has been completed and drafted for a brand new musical comedy-satire using the theme of golf in The Outback. It is the story of the Saltbush Downs Open Golf Classic
