RELICS
RELICS is a group exhibition by alumni from Adelaide College of the Arts’ graduating class of 2021. Featuring emerging South Australian artists, the exhibition explores relics, objects, memories, and stories from the past that continue to shape us today. It investigates our relationship with both historical and personal heirlooms, keepsakes, and narratives. Signifying time, decay, and preservation, the works reflect each artist’s identity and connection to the past. Thought-provoking yet accessible, RELICS invites audiences to consider what we inherit, what we choose to preserve, and what we let go.
Guided Tactile Tour by Exhibition Curators | 27th of February - 1pm-2pm at Light Square Gallery.
Presented by: Shani Engelbrecht
Shani Engelbrecht (they/she) is a multidisciplinary artist and emerging curator of Indian-Fijian and Scottish-Irish heritage, creating and living on Kaurna Country. Their practice explores identity, belonging, and the in-between spaces of growing up between cultures. Central to their work is an investigation of race, otherness, and the lived experiences of people of colour. Through performance, photography, video, drawing, and painting, they blend traditional and contemporary techniques to reflect on the dualities of their upbringing and personal history. Their work has been shown in exhibitions including In Reflection: In Response (The Mill 2025), Hatched: National Graduate Show Exhibition (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts 2023), and not white/not brown (FELTspace 2023).
