Partying with Manson
You do a lot of crazy things when you're eighteen. I killed Sharon Tate." So begins this roller coaster ride through the madness of America as described by one of the Manson Family's central figures, Susan Atkins. A teenage go-go dancer lost in the mayhem of a world on fire as Nixon and Kissinger carpet bomb Vietnam and chants of Make Love Not War mix with calls for Revolution, Susan is easy prey for the manipulative charms of Charlie Manson and his Apocalyptic vision. Written by one of Australia’s greatest writers, Stephen Sewell, this one-woman show features a tour de force performance by Helen O'Connor (Crownies, Packed to the Rafters, Rake), in a horrifyingly hilarious look at murderous cults and the people drawn into them. People just like you. It's True Crime a go go, and it's wild.
This has enough material in it to offend practically everyone.
Presented by: The Manson Collective
The Manson Collective is a group of three Australian creatives drawn together by mutual respect and a love of theatre. Actress Helen O'Conner, director Kim Hardwick and writer Stephen Sewell met earlier on Sewell's previous play "The Lives of Eve" and found the experience so exhilarating they decided to do it all over again with a new show that might test their mettle even more, a black comedy about one of the most notorious mass murders in American history. Helen is well known to television audiences, having appeared frequently in popular shows such as Rake, Crownies and Packed to the Rafters; Kim is a highly regarded director and educator with an enviable list of productions to her name; and Stephen is one of Australia's most awarded playwrights. And all anxious to thrill and entertain.
