Metropolis Now

Inspired by 'RENT!' and 'La Boheme', this new play with songs imagines a dystopian future where AI has ransacked the arts industry, corporate greed has escalated the cost of living, housing affordability and sustainability crises, and despite scientific advancements a cure for cancer remains elusive. As a group of struggling artists and activists face eviction from their dilapidated apartment build, they discover their true power and rebellion is in being authentic and hopeful in a society that would rather perpetuate fear. Featuring nostalgic songs from the 80s and 90s, this original work devised with a group of young people reflects the enduring capacity art has to challenge, provoke and activate audiences to imagine and create a better future, and the vital importance of community.
