The play holds the American Theatre Wing's Tony Award record for most wins for the same female lead character with Judith Anderson, Zoe Caldwell and Diana Rigg. In 1969 Pier Paolo Pasolini made a movie starring Maria Callas.

This is the sequel of Euripides's 431 BC masterpiece 'Medea'. The ups and downs of passionate love stories hasn't changed in 2500 years. She married him. He left her for a younger woman. They meet again 30 years after those tragic events in Corinth. Words exchanged, love songs too.

The play has been explored and interpreted by playwrights across the centuries and the world in a variety of ways and Medea's struggle to take charge of her own life in a male-dominated world.
