Kumangka Palti Yarta - Welcome Ceremony

Events • Storytelling
South Australia

To mark the imminent opening of the 2023 festival, Adelaide Fringe invites you to join the Welcome Ceremony at the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens on Sunday 12 February.

Hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Elders and leaders, as they share their story of connection to Country and participate in a smoking ceremony, to acknowledge the ancestors and pay respect to the land and waters on which we gather.

Gather your friends, family and a picnic rug on the lawn before sunset for a beautiful ceremony involving multiple locally-based First Nations groups:

Michael (Mickey) 'Kumatpi Marrutya' O'Brien,  Uncle Major (Moogy) Sumner,  Katrina 'Karlapina' Power,  Uncle Eddie Peters,  Dave and Kyle Booth,  Robert Taylor,  Taylor Power-Smith and Ashum Owen.

Watch this on Facebook Live at 5PM ACDT.

Presented by: Adelaide Fringe

Please bring a picnic rug or low chair if you wish. There is plenty of accessible seating on the concrete paved areas. Please note this is not a performance, it is a cultural ceremony, and we ask you to please be respectful at all times.
