In the Shadow of the Gallows

“In the Shadow of the Gallows” presents the biographical screen adaptation of the life of the only woman ever hanged in South Australia, Elizabeth Woolcock. After her childhood in Ballarat at the time of the Eureka Stockade, her life was punctuated with death and tragedy. Her last days at the age of just 23 were accompanied by accusations of murder, which led to her ultimate death by hanging. The case of Elizabeth Woolcock has become one of the most hotly contested true crimes in Australian history and is portrayed on screen in an acclaimed performance by Hilary Boyce.

The screening of In the Shadow of the Gallows will be presented as a double feature along with the 30 minute biographical true crime film, Vendetta 19, capturing 19 year old Squizzy Taylor's tow to tow with his fate in 1908.

Double feature screening. Bring picnics & deck chairs, and please take your rubbish with you.
