Holding / Carrying - Three sculptural elements sit in front of a brown paper background covered in scratchy charcoal marks of black and yellow. The first is brushed steel, the second black ruffled porcelain, and the third brown ceramic marked with fingerprints.

Holding / Carrying

Presented by Helpmann Academy 2025 Residency Artists
Marlize de Klerk, Gemma Slattery, Aidan Hughes
The Gallery at St Peters Town Hall

Memory, emotion, and information: the existence of virtual inner worlds is held and carried by data systems, bodies, and material objects. In Holding/Carrying, De Klerk, Slattery, and Hughes explore what it means to hold and carry, both as burden and as offering, through ideas of storing, translating, and passing on experience across the physical, emotional, and metaphysical.

Through handcrafted porcelain, embodied movement, and digital gestures, each artist draws from a personal practice to examine how memory, gesture, sound, and feeling become inscribed in form.
