Hasta la raíz (To the root)
The Mill is excited to present a new body of work by emerging photographer Carmen Alcedo. Developed through a 12 month residency at The Mill, this exhibition explores Carmen´s experience of migration from Spain to Australia, and the constant negotiation of identity it involves. From the most ordinary details to the most unexpected, everything fractures, creating an abyss where familiar anchors, culture, identity and memory, recede. Through photography, Carmen reconstructs her world from zero, building it with all that she already is and all that she belongs to.
By layering images, Carmen attempts to bridge distances, between countries, generations, and languages, while also honouring what remains unbridgeable. This exhibition inhabits those gaps with honesty, tenderness, and resilience.
