Empire of the Senses
The dance is a homage to nature and its beauty and shows how we need to immerse in with it.
Using Simon Carroll's time lapse images of the Australian wilderness and compiled by Jorg Hacker, Shakti becomes one with the images. The desert, starry skies, clouds and thunderstorms and lightning shows the immense power of nature; it is time for us to realise its importance and learn how to treasure it and not destroy it.
The show premiered in Edinburgh Fringe in 2002 and since then it has been performed in Montreal, Yokohama and Kyoto.
"The effect is stunning when she walks into the desert and into the volcanos." Ballet Magazine
"'The Empire of the Senses' is an ode to physical and spiritual ecstacy." The Scotsman
Presented by: Shakti & The Garage International
Shakti is Sanskrit for "energy"; creative energy and sexual energy. All Shakti's dance is centered towards the activation of this energy. The two opposite forces of life and death, creation and destruction, chaos and serenity, plus and minus are played upon in a never-ending game.
Shakti is a lover of nature. She spends her time in the wild outback of Australia with her husband, Jorg, where she gets her energy and her inspiration to create and to live. She is a creature of the wild and it is evident in her dance.
No borders. No boundaries. Only passion and ecstasy.
